The High Chaparral- western series like Bonanza
There is hardly a western lover who doesn�t know about the western themed TV series, The High Chaparral that was broadcasted by NBC from 1967 to 1971. The most popular western series Bonanza was directed by David Dortort and later he planed and directed The High Chaparral. It was not so popular like Bonanza but it was also praised by all. The theme song and the music were written and composed by the same as Bonanza, David Rose.
Dortort's brainchild was the series The High Chaparral. After the cancelation of Bonanza he stopped his busy life in spring 1967 and concentrated in other works. In this time the idea of The High Chaparral flourished in his mind and he began to concentrate in this series. After the completion of the series in 1971 every one thought that he has canceled it just to join Bonanza again but instead of joining Bonanza he took retirement. During the shooting of The High Chaparral, Nino Cochise the grandson of Cochise of the Apache wars requested to give him the role of Cochise. In this time he was one leg missing 92 years old man. But ultimately he owned the part of Cochise.
The main cast of the series was "Big" John Cannon played by Leif Erickson. He was a rancher and ran the rancher with his brother Buck (Cameron Mitchell) and his son Billy (Blue Boy) (Mark Slade). They lived in the Arizona Territory in the 1870s. Billy�s mother died in the starting episode of the series by an Indian arrow through the window. After this incidence he thought about Billy�s future and married Victoria (Linda Cristal), who was the daughter of Don Sebasti�n Montoya. The other major and minor and guest casts were Anthony Caruso, Roberto Contreras, Dennis Cross, John Dehner, Paul Fix, Ron Foster, Ron Hagerthy, Ron Hayes, Myron Healey, Don Keefer, Robert Loggia, Tyler McVey, Ricardo Montalban, Ned Romero, Frank Silvera, Barry Sullivan, Dub Taylor, and Morgan Woodward.
No information was available yet about the release of the whole series in DVD in Europe of America. But from the Amazon�s German website it was known that the first season will be released in 20th may 2010 with English subtitle and dubbed in German.
